Some like it hot, some like it cold...

When the weather station claimed
an excessive heat warning, in our parts,
we packed up and headed to the hills.

But...just for a few hours.

We are never disappointed when
we choose Pine Valley, Utah for
our hiking destination.

We all love it there.

Since Bryan was 'on call' with his work,
we needed to hurry home.

But, on the road, just south of Mesquite...
there was a huge semi-truck fire and
the stop and go traffic was backed up
for several miles.

When we first stopped the outside temperature gauge
read a balmy 113 degrees.

By the time we got to the top of the mesa, it
was a scorching 123*.

Which is all well and good when you
have a killer A/C unit.

But, just earlier that day, when we were stopped
outside of Deseret Book so Bryan could
get himself some new G's...
we found that when our family wagon idles...
the air conditioner blows warm.

Needless to say, we were all puddles
of sweat and most grateful
that we had our backpacks full
of water...or at least half full, by then.

We told the kids stories of how
we sometimes had air conditioner-less
cars growing up...in the southern
nevada heat...
and how we would make homemade a/c by
 spraying water
on ourselves and rolling down the windows.

Then Myra said, "You guys were like the
pioneers"...
and we laughed.

After two long hours we were out
of the heat and home to
our happy n' cool Garden Cottage...
and all the more grateful for
these modern day blessings.

Now, right this minute, as I type
our family wagon is having a lit'l
adventure at the mechanic shop...
where he is getting a whole new
air conditioning system and such...
because that good ol' pioneer blood
runs cold, these days.

{Have a Wonderful Day!}
